Here's what it's all about:

A few winters ago on the heels of Shivering Strings West, over a spaghetti dinner it was suggested "why not have a similar camp in Carnduff?" Why not indeed. Seed planted, the idea of Shivering Strings South was born . . .

As with its sister camps, this music camp is open to fiddle, guitar, piano, banjo and mandolin students who have had some prior instruction on their instruments (this is not a workshop for the 'raw beginner'). Participants can register in fiddle (under beginner, intermediate or advanced level) or guitar, banjo, mandolin or piano (to learn to play accompaniment/backup). A group of musicians will instruct the camp and the end result will be large group orchestrations in the tunes we learn. Fidde students will receive instruction on a rotational basis from each fiddle instructor; banjo, guitar, mando and piano students will receive specialized accompaniment classes. The tunes to be learned by fiddle students will be posted via a link (sheet music and audio file), available once the registration fee has been received. This way the student can become familiar with the tunes prior to camp and practice the tunes ahead of time, ready to hit the ground running so to speak. It is encouraged that fiddle participants at least "somewhat" learn the tunes prior so that emphasis can be placed on arrangements, group dynamics and orchestration once at camp. In a nutshell, you will learn new ways to play tunes with other instruments accompanying and have a whole lot of FUN doing it!! We wrap up the weekend with a concert on Sunday afternoon that's open to the public!

Guitar, banjo, mando and piano students will learn to accompany the fiddle players at this camp and should have enough ability that they can play backup notes or basic chords. To register in piano, one should already know how to play at least C &G chords. Banjo will be instructed in the clawhammer style.

Just warning you . . . it is gonna be fun . . .
